ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq - Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani is set to visit the United States in the “next few days,” where he will meet high-ranking US officials, said KRG spokesperson Peshawa Hawramani on Wednesday.
Hawramani told The New Region that Prime Minister Barzani’s trip will be “a diplomatic and friendly visit which is aimed at strengthening bilateral relations.”
Hawramani went on to detail that Prime Minister Barzani “will meet the high-ranking US officials.”
Barzani’s visit to the US came a little over a month after he held a phone call with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, discussing "the importance of strengthening the friendship and alliance between the Kurdistan Region and the United States.”
Prime Minister Barzani also shares a strong relationship with the current US cabinet in general.
The Kurdistan Region has long been an ally of the US. Washington has for years provided military aid and training to the Region’s Peshmerga forces.
