Iraq's Coordination Framework is launching a new initiative to resolve long-standing issues with the Kurdistan Region, senior Badr Organization official Mueen al-Kadhimi told The New Region.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq - A senior official from Iraq’s Coordination Framework told The New Region on Saturday that the group is preparing a major initiative to resolve all disputes with the Kurdistan Region.

Mueen al-Kadhimi, a member of the Badr Organization and the parliamentary Finance Committee, said that the initiative aims to fix “all outstanding issues” and create a better environment for cooperation between Baghdad and Erbil.

“The Framework wants to solve every issue and prepare the ground for mutual understanding,” Kadhimi said. He praised relations between the Coordination Framework and the Kurdish political parties, calling them “very strong.”

He stressed the need for all sides to approach disagreements “with a national spirit” and said both sides must respect each other’s rights and responsibilities to find lasting and fair solutions.

High-level meeting planned

Rahim Aboudi, a member of the National Wisdom Movement, said a high-level delegation from the Coordination Framework is expected to visit the Kurdistan Region on Sunday to meet with Kurdish leader Masoud Barzani. The visit comes after the federal finance ministry halted salary payments to public employees in the Kurdistan Region, raising tensions between the two governments.

Aboudi told The New Region that the delegation will be led by Badr Organization leader Hadi al-Amiri.

He called for a wider meeting between senior leaders from both sides to exchange views and reach long-term solutions. Aboudi warned against letting the crisis continue or allowing outside powers to interfere. He praised Barzani’s long-standing role in resolving Iraq’s internal and external problems.

“We always rely on President Barzani to help bridge gaps and bring all parties together under one Iraqi roof,” Aboudi said.

He also stressed the importance of Kurdistan to Iraq’s economy.

“Supporting the Region’s economy means supporting the whole country’s economy,” he said. “Oil and gas are shared issues and should be managed in a way that helps all citizens.”

Aboudi criticized efforts to politicize salary payments and accused some groups of creating crises before elections to win more seats.

“Salaries should never be used for political games,” he said. “No group should work with foreign powers to protect its own interests at the cost of the public good.”
