MILAN, Italy – Iran on Friday launched hundreds of projectiles, including ballistic missiles, towards Israel, in retaliation of Tel Aviv’s extensive aerial campaign against the Islamic republic.

Israel, in the early hours of Friday morning, initiated a devastating campaign of airstrikes against targets across Iran, with the attacks hitting myriad military facilities and nuclear sites across the country, killing at least six nuclear scientists and numerous high-ranking Iranian military figures.

Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei addressed the Iranian nation following Israel’s large-scale aerial campaign in a televised speech on Friday evening.

"We must act forcefully, and God willing, we will act forcefully, and we will not compromise with them. Life will undoubtedly become bitter for them," said Khamenei.

"Do not think that they have done it and that is the end of it. No. They started the work and started the war,"

Iran launched its retaliatory strikes moments after Khamenei's speech was televised.

In a statement, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said they have started their response their "crushing and precise response against dozens of targets, military centers and air bases of the usurping Zionist regime in the occupied [Palestinian] territories."

Israel's large-scale bombardment came just days ahead of a sixth round of nuclear talks between Washington and Tehran that were pegged for Sunday, with Alaeddin Boroujerdi, a member of the Iranian Parliament, saying that the upcoming negotiations have been canceled and that he does not think that “any other round of talks will take place” in light of the attack.
