The latest government toll says that 935 people died in Iran from Israeli strikes during almost two weeks of conflict between the pair in mid-June.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq - At least 935 people were killed and nearly 5,000 others injured in Iran during a 12-day conflict with arch-foe Israel, Iranian state media reported, citing judicial authorities, nearly a week since a ceasefire took effect.

"During the 12-day war waged by the Zionist regime against our country, 935 martyrs have been identified so far," the official IRNA news agency quoted judiciary spokesman Asghar Jahangir as saying.

The death toll included 132 women and 38 children, Jahangir said.

Israel launched a large-scale offensive against Iran on June 13, targeting Iranian nuclear and military facilities across the country and killing dozens of high-profile military commanders and nuclear scientists.

Iran responded with waves of missiles and drone strikes, striking the country’s major cities, including Tel Aviv and Haifa, killing 28, according to Israeli authorities.

Notable Iranian officials killed in the Israeli attacks included: Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) chief Hossein Salami, nuclear scientist and former head of the country’s atomic energy organization Fereydoon Abbasi, physicist and president of the Islamic Azad University Mohammad Mehdi Tehranchi, the chief of staff of Iran’s military Mohammad Bagheri, and IRGC Air Force Commander Amir Ali Hajizadeh.

A mass funeral service that saw the attendance of President Masoud Pezeshkian, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf was held in Tehran on Saturday, with thousands gathering in the Iranian capital’s Enqelab Square to honor around 60 security officials and nuclear scientists who were killed during the 12-day Israeli conflict.
