A planned meeting in Paris between Kurdish leaders from northeastern Syria and Syrian government officials was postponed without a publicly-declared official reason.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq - A planned meeting in Paris between representatives of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) and a delegation from the Syrian transitional government has been postponed, according to media affiliated with the Kurdish authorities. No official reason was given for the delay.

The meeting was expected to bring together Kurdish officials and members of the transitional government to discuss governance and security arrangements in northeastern Syria.

Ronahi TV reported that AANES’s representative in France confirmed the postponement but declined to provide further details.

Meanwhile, outlets affiliated with the Syrian government claimed that the visit was disrupted after French authorities allegedly denied entry to Mazloum Abdi, commander of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), upon his arrival at a French airport. Abdi was reportedly not allowed to leave the plane and was sent back to Erbil shortly after landing due to the fact that he was traveling on an Iraqi passport.

According to the outlets, the French authorities had received a list of 23 delegates accompanying Abdi, including senior AANES figures such as Fawza Youssef and Ilham Ahmed. After reviewing the documents, authorities allegedly found that most of the delegation held non-Syrian passports, including Iranian, Iraqi, and Turkish, with only two members carrying Syrian passports.

In response to the developments, a government source told Syrian state media outlet al-Ikhbariya that Damascus “has not and will not accept any dialogue based on threats or foreign pressure.” The source emphasized that real national dialogue must occur “under Syrian sovereignty and with full respect for the unity of the state and its institutions.”

The official also rejected any proposal to maintain an independent military bloc in the SDF-controlled northeast, calling it “a violation of the national interest and the unity of the Syrian army.” The source said that the government remains open to dialogue with all Syrians, but only “under the banner of the state and away from foreign agendas.”

The source added that any attempts to justify separatist” projects by referencing unrest in Suwayda or the coastal region were “misleading and condemned.”
